In May 2025, the Middletown Grange Fairgrounds became a hub for gardeners, nature enthusiasts, and conservationists during the Bucks County Conservation Event & Native Plant Sale.
Hosted by local partners, including Penn State Master Watershed Stewards, the event offered residents a chance to purchase native trees, shrubs, and meadow seed mixes - while learning how to create more resilient and eco-friendly landscapes.
Why Native Plants Matter
Native trees and shrubs are more than just attractive - they’re essential to healthy local ecosystems. They:
- Support wildlife by providing food and habitat for birds, pollinators, and beneficial insects
- Reduce maintenance because they’re adapted to local soil and climate
- Improve water quality by filtering runoff and reducing erosion
Beyond the Sale
The event also featured demonstrations and guidance from local experts on how to plant, care for, and maintain native landscapes. Attendees left not only with new plants but also with the knowledge to help them thrive.
A Growing Trend
Events like the Bucks County Native Plant Sale are part of a growing regional movement to restore biodiversity in our backyards, parks, and public spaces. By choosing native species, communities are helping to reverse habitat loss, improve soil health, and strengthen our environment’s natural defenses against extreme weather.
